Dimethylglyoxime, DMG (IUPAC name: 2,3-Butanedione Dioxime) (CH 3 C(NOH)C(NOH)CH 3) is a white crystalline solid that is insoluble in pure water but soluble in alcohol or a solution of NaOH, DMG has two acidic protons and thus dissolves in aqueous NaOH as a sodium salt. It is used in detection and analyzing of nickel and palladium content in.
Nickel Electroplating can be formulated to create a variety of light- to dark-toned finish options. From a brushed stainless steel appearance to a bright chrome-like gleam to even an almost black metallic finish, the diversity in Nickel finishes delivers a variety of performance characteristics. Matt Nickel finishes tend to increase ductile characteristics, while brighter finishes decrease them.
Summit Plating has developed several proprietary formulas to achieve unique combinations of brightness and ductility to meed client part specifications. This includes competency in achieving consistent 27% plating (by volume) on both steel and copper wire through carefully controlled electroplating, drawing, and annealing processes.
- Re: DMG - Palladium and Nickel Testing Solution Post by patnor1011 » February 11th, 2011, 11:12 am This one is taken by phone so quality is not perfect but it show test tube with clear tested solution and yellow precipitate settled on bottom after 24hrs.
- The Gravimetric Determination of Nickel INTRODUCTION Nickel(II) forms a precipitate with the organic compound dimethylglyoxime, C4H6(NOH)2. The formation of the red chelate occurs quantitatively in a solution in which the pH is buffered in the range of 5 to 9. The chelation reaction that occurs is illustrated below.
Nickel Electroplating can be used as a barrier layer for enhancing solderability and corrosion resistance in applications on red or steel, and can provide surface hardness that extends the life of high cycling parts. Other notable characteristics include excellent solder adhesion and lubricity. Industries that rely on economical, durable Nickel to enhance their parts include Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, and Music.

Properties:
Dimethylglyoxime is a chemical compound described by the formula CH3C(NOH)C(NOH)CH3. Its abbreviation is dmgH2 for neutral form, and dmgH for anionic form, where H stands for hydrogen. This colourless solid is the dioxime derivative of the diketone butane-2,3-dione (also known as diacetyl). DmgH2 is used in the analysis of palladium or nickel. Its coordination complexes are of theoretical interest as models for enzymes and as catalysts. Many related ligands can be prepared from other diketones, e.g. benzil.
Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) is a complexing ligand. Dimethylglyoxime forms a number of mixed ligand complexes with N-acetylglycine with metals such as VO(IV), Ni(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II). It is a useful reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of Co(II), Fe(II), Ni(II), Pd(II) and Re(VII).

Application:
Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) was used as complexing agent for cobalt(II) and nickel(II) metals for the analysis of brine for trace metals by adsorptive stripping voltammetry. DMG was used in a study to develop a new DMG containing modified sol-gel carbon composite electrode for voltammetric sensing of heavy metals.
It is a useful reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of Co(II), Fe(II), Ni(II), Pd(II) and Re(VII).
